Chevy is finally getting some new Camaro models in the pipeline and it looks like the ZL1 is going to be resurrected as the first one, with the Z/28 possibly following.
Although I'm happy to see these models coming out, it almost seems like Chevy's got it backwards, with the ZL1 receiving the powerplant that the Z/28 should be getting, I'll show in my text boxes below the way I think would be superior from a marketing and final product standpoint for both cars.
I've made a chart of some of the features that I think would differentiate these cars better

ZL1

Engine: Anyone who's been around cars for any time knows that the ZL1 is an all-aluminum 427, and since this motor is currently available in the Corvette Z06 as the LS7 why not take that direct-injection technology and marry it to the LS7 and now you've got

THE NEW ZL1:
An all-aluminum 427 cube direct-injected 550 + HP non-supercharged motor.
Not having to pack a supercharger would automatically make this motor about 100 pounds lighter, and it would probably also pull better mpg than the LSA 6.2 supercharged motor does
Both ZL1 and Z/28

Okay, what happenened to the 2012 Camaro ditching the Zeta platform and going to the 300 pounds lighter Alpha platform?

If these cars end up being in the 3900 pound range I don't see how they could be very competitive with anything.
With all the aluminum Vette chassis parts I can't believe there isn't some way to shed weight.
Z/28

Many will say that a Z/28 means 302 cubes, but over the years there have been many more 350 powered Z/28's than 302's so that's really a non issue, besides GM doesn't have one right now so the 302 simply isn't going to happen.
I feel the Supercharged 6.2 at 550 HP would be an excellent choice for the new Z/28, but it needs to be mated to the Camaro with the Alpha chassis with all the magnetic ride control features that the ZL1 has but with this extra feature:
ALL WHEEL DRIVE
The Alpha chassis can go AWD so why not the Camaro Z/28?
Also make 2 motors available for the Z/28 to make it more popular in the European market
The 2nd motor option?
A 400 to 450 (or more) HP twin turbo V-6 !!!!
